Motion compensated Prediction in Distributed Video Coding
نویسندگان
چکیده
The ongoing research in Distributed Video Coding (DVC) for low complexity encoding is trying to shorten the substantial performance gap to well known state-of-the-art coders. One of the reasons for this gap is the motion estimation without the reference frame. In this paper we look at what motion estimation to use. Furthermore we compare the two possible methods to get a motion compensated prediction. These are interpolation and extrapolation. Our results show that extrapolation outperforms the widely used interpolation noticeably.

Rate-constrained multihypothesis prediction for motion-compensated video compression
This article investigates linearly combined motion-compensated signals for video compression. In particular, we discuss multiple motion-compensated signals that are jointly estimated for efficient prediction and video coding. First, we extend the wide-sense stationary theory of motion-compensated prediction for the case of jointly estimated prediction signals. Our theory suggests that the gain ...
متن کاملVideo codec incorporating block-based multihypothesis motion-compensated prediction
Multi-hypothesis prediction extends motion compensation with one prediction signal to the linear superposition of several motion-compensated prediction signals. These motion-compensated prediction signals are referenced by motion vectors and picture reference parameters. This paper proposes a state-of-the-art video codec based on the ITU-T Recommendation H.263 that incorporates multi-hypothesis...
متن کاملMotion compensated in-band prediction for wavelet-based spatially scalable video coding
In this paper, a wavelet-based spatially scalable video coding scheme with in-band prediction is investigated in combination with JPEG 2000 quantization and arithmetic coding. The wavelet decomposition of each frame of the video data is succeeded by the computation of a blockwise motion compensated prediction for the individual subbands. To achieve half-pixel motion vector accuracy the shift-in...
متن کاملPanoramic Video Coding Using Affine Motion Compensated Prediction
This paper proposes an affine motion compensated prediction (AMCP) method to predict the complex changes between the successive frames in panoramic video coding. A panoramic video is an image-based rendering (IBR) technique [1] which provides users with a large field of view (e.g. 360 degree) on surrounding dynamic scenes. It includes not only the translational motions but also the non-translat...
متن کاملHigh - Order Motion Compensationfor Low Bit - Rate
The concept of high-order motion compensation is introduced. It is argued that in hybrid video coding, motion-compensated prediction has to be viewed as a source coding problem with a delity criterion. Based on our considerations, various high-order motion compensation approaches are presented that achieve signi-cantly improved video coding results. The designed motion-compensated predictors ac...
